As per dictionary discipline is a branch of learning. School subjects are generally classified under these disciplines. Mathematics is a subject which is actually a whole branch of discipline itself.

There are different academic disciplines like business, humanities, natural and applied sciences etc.
Mathematics is a school subject that comes under the academic discipline of natural and applied sciences.
Hence it can be said that mathematics is a part of an academic discipline.

Mathematics is considered as an academic discipline as such because it can be described,analyzed,impersonalized and memorized. As discipline is the methodology for teaching and learning, it dictates that the teacher will be the source of all mathematical values, skills and meaning. As the learners are forced to set aside their point of view and accept teachers pattern of learning this leads to pressure and loss of interest in math among them. This relationship helps the learner to open up in their mathematical solution.
